Clackamas County is the third most populous county in Oregon. According to the Oregon Health Authority, the county experienced 27 opioid-related overdose deaths in 2017. There were an additional 69 non-heroin opioid and 14 heroin hospitalizations in 2017. In a recent Clackamas County-focused study of naloxone delivery to individuals discharging from jail, of 232 participants, 46 percent confirmed that they had experienced at least one overdose and 49 percent indicated an interest in receiving treatment for opioid use disorder. Clackamas County used its Building Bridges implementation funding to bring culturally specific resources to the county and assisted with making connections to services in the community by providing housing and peer recovery resources for African Americans in Clackamas County, as well as providing transportation to and childcare for meetings, treatment, and other treatment- or supervision-related appointments to increase engagement.
